April 2018 - July 2018
Berlin, Germany

In the combination of two opposing materials - brick and steel - a modular, structural system is created which takes up the advantages of both materials. The space forming brick creates atmospheric vaults whose shearing forces are balanced by steel tension cables. The steel columns permit small profiles even in tall buildings and form a precise interface between the modules. The initial triangular shape creates flexibility in combination and when joined open spaces for free movement. A hollow floor slab as ceiling not only creates a balanced ratio of masonry to opening in the facade, but also allows generous building services channels in floor and ceiling. In the presented example, the structure produces a co-working space on a randomly assigned plot of land on the border of Berlin‘s Tiergarten. However, the module can create buildings of the most diverse functions in almost any context.
